Clean for the Queen

March 1st, 2016

Many neighbours will already know that each year we encourage everyone take part in The Mill Street Tidy — to step outside their front doors, on a designated day, to spring clean their paths, gardens, driveways or local area.
This year, MSRA has registered with the Clean for the Queen campaign — an initiative launched by Country Life magazine in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy to clear up Britain in time for the Queen’s 90th birthday.

They — and we — are hoping to rally an army of volunteers to join the tidy-up during 4-6 March (next weekend).

We’ve already got the support of MP James Berry, who will be joining us in Mill Street on 5 March.
As well as sweeping and sprucing up our own front gardens, we are looking for volunteers to help with the following tasks:
[] maintain Annita and Tony’s bench (we’ve got the teak oil)
[] paint bollards — Carol will co-ordinate, date TBC
[] clear and weed along Mill Street
[] clear, weed and litter-pick around Swan Path
[] clear, weed and litter-pick around the bridge to Portland Road
Please give MSRA a shout (or email) if you can lend a hand.
As an incentive, our lovely neighbours at the Stanley Picker Gallery have offered to lay on refreshments and facilities for those needing a rest ( — or a pee Grinning face with smiling eyes!) on the Saturday.
Finally, a big thank you to Rob and Pat who — ahead of the game — have been working hard maintaining the green.  They’ve been braving the cold to plant an assortment of roses and bulbs, along with pruning the hedging, to keep it looking lovely for us all to enjoy.
